MIRI: Police here on Tuesday afternoon detained a local man for alleged drug abuse activities.
According to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the 35 year-old suspect was detained inside a vacant shophouse in Niah during an operation around 1.30 pm by a team from Miri Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
He said, during the raid, the police also confiscated illegal substance believed to be drug weighing at 5.93 grammes worth around RM600.
“The drug was found inside a cigarettes package which the suspect had earlier on tried to discard during the raid,” he said.
The police managed to retrieve the cigarette package and upon further check they discovered the drug sealed inside it.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
