KUCHING: The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Sarawak branch is set to host its annual Surveyors’ Congress 2025 on April 16 and 17 at the Imperial Hotel, Kuching.
The two-day congress, under the theme ‘Shaping Sarawak Towards a Digital Era’, will explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology on surveying disciplines, including Geomatics and Land Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Property Surveying, Building Surveying, Property Management, and Construction.
Industry experts and high-profile speakers, many from outside Sarawak, will share insights on key topics such as transit-oriented development, AI in corporate real estate and construction, remote sensing, disaster management, legal issues in strata development, the future of data centres, and carbon mapping for land assessment.
A key highlight of the event will be the keynote address by Datuk Lester Matthew, director of the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU), who will speak on ‘Leveraging Digital Transformation for Sarawak’s Economic Sustainability’.
Meanwhile, RISM Sarawak also held its 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 15 at the Ultimate Professional Centre (UPC), Kuching.
During the AGM, members reviewed the institution’s progress, discussed key industry developments, and elected the new executive committee for 2025 to 2026.
Over the past year, RISM Sarawak has actively engaged in professional development through webinars on Qlassic application for Quantity Surveyors, Cubicost Physical Training for TAS & TRB, and an E-Invoicing Seminar, alongside collaborations with UTS students and lecturers in Quantity Surveying and Property/Construction Management.
The institution has also contributed to heritage and community initiatives, leading the restoration of the Santubong Trigonometric Monument and launching the Kuching Zero Kilometre Monument project, officiated by the Premier of Sarawak.
Additionally, RISM Sarawak carried out food basket distributions to underprivileged families and organised a blood donation drive at Aeon Mall on February 9.
The newly elected RISM Sarawak executive committee (Exco) for 2025 to 2026 will be led by chairman Norman Chai, with Bong Lee Hong as immediate past chair, Ngo Chee Hong as deputy chairman, Sr Lim Yew Hwa as secretary, and Ko See Sheng as treasurer.
