KUCHING: Yoga Region, a local studio, integrated community service into its 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programme by hosting 11 weeks of charity yoga classes to support animal welfare, led by its aspiring instructors.

The trainees, all passionate animal lovers and proud pet owners, chose to raise funds for the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA). Driven by their shared love for animals, they are committed to supporting organisations that protect and care for vulnerable animals in the community.

The charity yoga classes, held on weekends, welcomed participants from all backgrounds to support the cause while enjoying yoga’s physical and mental benefits.

The funds raised, totalling RM5,072, will support SSPCA’s ongoing efforts to provide food, shelter, and medical care for stray and abandoned animals in Sarawak.

Alvin Heng, who mentored the trainees throughout the programme, highlighted the importance of such initiatives.

“Animals can’t speak for themselves, so it’s up to us animal lovers to help them.

“We trust SSPCA will make good use of the funds to continue their essential work,” he said.

Yoga Region and its teacher trainees extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the charity classes and supported this meaningful cause, showcasing how their collective dedication can create a real and positive impact on the lives of animals and the wider community.

Meanwhile, Datin Dona Drury Wee, President of SSPCA, expressed her gratitude to the teachers of Yoga Region for their heartwarming and innovative charitable initiative. She was deeply moved by their care for the animals in the shelter.

Furthermore, SSPCA is hosting its main fundraising event, the Christmas Charity Bazaar, this Sunday, at MBKS Dewan Masyarakat New Wing from 10 am to 2 pm, and invites the public to come and support the cause.
