KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has reiterated its unequivocal support for Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership in advancing the state’s development agenda.
SUPP president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the party was dedicated to the Sarawak 2030 Nation-Building vision, aligning its efforts with the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) objectives.
“We are very united, we are very stable and we are here to support GPS.
“Our resolution for this year is to support the Premier as GPS chairman, leading us into the next Sarawak election,” said Dr Sim who is Deputy Premier.
“We will be with you. We also support your leadership on our fight for Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, and the Malaysia Act 1963 (Chapter 35).”
He made these pledges during the 26th SUPP 2024 Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) here on Sunday.
Dr Sim also reiterated the party’s support for Abang Johari’s initiative on securing one-third of parliamentary seats for Sarawak and Sabah and upholding the state and federal constitutional rights over territorial waters, continental shelf, seabeds, and subsoils.
“Also, we support our Premier on the oil mining ordinance, and of course, our ongoing gas aggregator (issue).
“And of course, I am passionate about health, on health autonomy. Because as I get old, I also want to be making sure that someone looks after me,” he said.
He also declared SUPP’s readiness to face any challenges in the future.
“Be it in 2025 or 2026, we are your ‘kawan’ and will stand strong against any opposition. Anytime, we are ready,” said Dr Sim.
Meanwhile, during its election for the main committee, the top five positions remained uncontested following the close of the nomination process on Nov 29.
Dr Sim retained his position as party president unchallenged, alongside Deputy President I Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, Deputy President II Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Secretary-General Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Treasurer Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.
The SUPP Women’s chief position was also uncontested, with Kho Teck Wan remaining in the role.
Meanwhile, Kevin Lau has been announced as the new SUPP Youth chief, marking a fresh chapter for the party’s youth wing.
