KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pending branch has refuted allegations that its members failed to assist an elderly man who collapsed at a shop in Kenyalang Commercial Centre yesterday (Apr 11).

The branch was alluding to a Facebook post by Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, who claimed that SUPP members did not call for an ambulance during the incident.

“We indeed made a call to arrange for an ambulance and there is a record as proof – nothing was fabricated.

“Everyone has access to the ambulance hotline, not just the Rocket (DAP),” said SUPP Pending in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

SUPP Pending also criticised Yong for using this matter to gain credit and attack political opponents.

“If ‘saving lives’ becomes a matter of claiming credit, if even ‘saving lives’ is used to attack political opponents and put on a political show, it clearly shows that the YB (Yong) has not learned from the previous incident involving the Heart Centre.

“Not only has she once again made baseless accusations without verifying the facts, but she has also politicised the work of saving lives,” it said.

Previously, Yong in her Facebook post stated that two DAP members had provided support and also called the Malaysia Civil Defence Force to send an ambulance over to bring the elderly man for a treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.

She alleged that SUPP never called the ambulance, yet they boldly claimed they did. She went on to say that SUPP is a party full of lies and cannot be trusted.
