KUCHING: The fight to take back the autonomy in health and education, fair share of the income tax, and one-third of parliamentary seats for Sarawak and Sabah will continue.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this during his speech for the launching of SUPP Youth NewBees & Puteri held at SUPP Headquarters here today.
“Health autonomy is especially important as Pan Borneo Highway is close to completion cause Sarawak needs to be prepared in case there are severe accidents happened along the highway.
“There are a lot of specialists along the North-South highway from Johor to Penang while in Sarawak, our specialists are only in Kuching.
“You have to know the North-South highway is the same distance from Kuching here to Miri,” Sim added.
Sim said the Ministry of Health does the planning based on population and they will not prepare for the anticipation of severe accidents that may happened once Pan Borneo Highway is done, using Sarawak’s low population as an excuse.
“When Pan Borneo Highway is ready, there will be more accidents, serious accidents that you will need neurosurgeons to operate your brain.
“Orthopaedic surgeons and trauma surgeons are also needed too but all these specialists are only available in Kuching, unlike in West Malaysia where there are specialists in Johor, Muar, Malacca, all the way to Penang,” Sim added.
Sim pointed out that health autonomy, along with the fair share of taxes collected in Sarawak that are taken by the federal government, should be returned to Sarawak according to Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).
