SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch recently provided food aid to 98 families from five areas affected by flooding.
The affected areas include Tanjung Kunyit, Sungai Bidut, Sungai Sadit, Lebaan and Engkilo.
SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chief, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said many families suffered damage as floodwaters entered their homes.
“We also sought assistance from the Sarawak Welfare Department through the Sibu Resident’s Office to help them,” he said in a statement today.
He expressed gratitude to the councillors, community leaders and village chiefs for their support in providing aid to those in need.
“This initiative aims to ease the burden on affected families, and I also appreciate the Sarawak Welfare Department in Sibu Division for their swift response,” he added.
He also noted reports indicating a potential high tide on March 31.
“We all hope for good weather. I urge residents to take necessary precautions and prioritise safety,” he said.
