KUALA LUMPUR: Supermax Corporation Bhd will contribute two million pieces of medical grade gloves to Wuhan, China to aid local healthcare workers in their fight against the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019 – nCoV) outbreak.

In a statement today, the rubber glove manufacturer said the contribution was in addition to the one million gloves already distributed by its local office and distributor in China.

The company said it will be sending one million gloves to Wuhan today, on a special chartered flight coordinated by National Disaster Management Agency Malaysia (NADMA) while the remaining would be sent to the city located in central China on the next chartered flight scheduled on Feb 5.

“This is part of the pledge made by the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC) and the Malaysia Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association members to donate 18 million pieces of medical gloves to Wuhan,” it said.

Malaysia according to the company, could make a vital contribution to the fight against the coronavirus as the country is the world’s largest manufacturer of medical gloves.

“We are truly sympathetic to the plight of the people affected, especially the people in Wuhan and would like to contribute towards the fight. The gloves donation is part of our humanitarian efforts. Giving is not about making a donation, it is about making a difference,” said Supermax.

The company, it added, would continue to step forward to participate in humanitarian efforts around the world where Supermax operates each time when disasters and epidemic strike.

It had participated in disaster relief efforts around the world such as the Hurricane Katrina, Ebola outbreak, SARS, H1N1 and now the coronavirus to name a few. – Bernama
