KUCHING: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) will celebrate Human Rights Day with the Human Rights Festival Sarawak 2024 on Dec 7 at The Hills here.
The annual event will commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948, a landmark document affirming the inalienable rights of every individual, regardless of race, religion, or background.
“The theme for this year, ‘Empowering Our People, Securing Our Future’, highlights Sarawak’s commitment to fostering a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable society.
“It emphasises empowering individuals, particularly children, to ensure a brighter and more equitable future for all Sarawakians,” the omission said in a statement.
SUHAKAM said the festival will feature a range of activities, including exhibitions, interactive events, and stimulating discussions aimed to raising awareness about human rights and available support services as well as building connections among diverse stakeholders to encourage friendship and collaboration.
“The event also wants to showcase services that promote human rights through engaging exhibitions and delivering human rights education in a fun and accessible manner to involve and inform the public,” it said.
