SIBU: The service centre of Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew organised a subsidised food event at Kim Hock Supermarket on Dr Wong Soon Kai Road on Saturday (Feb 22), distributing 1,000 packages of discounted food.

According to Ling, the event received an overwhelming response from the public, with all packages selling out within just two hours.

He said that the supermarket was chosen for its proximity to the town centre and residential areas, which naturally attracted more participants.

“As a result, the 1,000 packages of discounted food were quickly sold out, reflecting a very positive response.

“The subsidised food packages included essential household items such as 10kg of white rice, 10 eggs, five packs of instant noodles, canned corn, packaged cooking oil, and biscuits — items particularly popular with the public.

“Originally priced at RM47.75, the subsidised price was reduced by 32 per cent to just RM30, ensuring greater affordability for the people,” Ling said.

Beyond food, the needs of infants and the elderly were also considered. Discounts were provided on both infant and adult milk powder to help ease the financial burden on families.

Each coupon allowed the purchase of only one pack of milk powder (for children or the elderly), with a RM5 subsidy for milk powder priced above RM20.

Ling added that the Unity government remains committed to easing financial burdens, hoping for a better life and progress for all in the Year of the Snake.
