KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) agrees with the decision made by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to postpone the reopening of primary and secondary schools in the city.

Its president Macky Joseph said during this period, all are reminded to be self-disciplined and continue to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) in order to be safe from Covid-19.

“Everyone plays an important role in ensuring the safety and maintaining good health,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 14).

He said the measure taken by SDCM was to combat the infection of Covid-19.

Form 1 and Four 4 students were supposed to return school on July 15.

However, in view of recent positive Covid-19 cases reported in Kuching, SDMC announced that the resumption of Transition classes, Form 1 to Form 4 and Lower 6 classes in Kuching, Padawan and Samarahan districts will be postponed to Aug 3.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is also the SDMC chairman said this also involved Primary 1 to Primary 4 students who were supposed to go back to school on July 23.
