DEBAK: Strong collaboration between the federal and state governments is crucial to the success of efforts to nurture more agri-entrepreneurs in Sarawak.
Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, speaking at the launch of the Fertigation Crop Project Programme in Debak yesterday (Apr 27), Razi welcomed the initiative, which is spearheaded by the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) in collaboration with Multiskills Training Centre (MTC).
“I am glad that Debak has been selected for this programme, which aims to equip rural communities with essential entrepreneurial skills,” he said.
Razi also urged participants to be creative and diversify the types of crops they cultivate to meet local market demands.
In line with ongoing efforts to boost fertigation activities in the area, he announced that the Betong Division Department of Agriculture would soon introduce a new initiative called the ‘Rain Shelter’ at the Debak Agriculture Office.
Meanwhile, the solution provider for the Fertigation Crop Agriculture Project, Abg Yusof Abg Spawi, revealed that 20 participants and their assistants are currently involved in the programme.
“This initiative is designed to empower villagers to cultivate crops at home, which in turn helps to lower the cost of essential food items like vegetables and fruits,” he said.
Following the launch, Razi visited the crops cultivated by participants between January and April this year.
