KUCHING: Village women’s bureaus need to be transformed in tandem with today’s modern development, said Assistant Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He said transformation needs to happen or else village development would be slow, especially in terms of family wellbeing.

Dr Jerip stressed that a women’s bureau is an important component of a village administration and should work closely with the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

Thus, the bureau needs to play its roles for the benefit of its members and the village by organising programmes that promote, among other things, unity of the people.

Dr Jerip was speaking at Kampung Git Women’s Bureau dinner held at the village’s community hall recently.

At the function, Dr Jerip announced a RM50,000 grant for the bureau to finance its various activities.

Dr Jerip also stressed that the bureau must take care of its members and the village’s welfare, adding that they ought to have sustainable programmes like cooking classes, weaving and handicraft workshops to train the women.
