KOTA SAMARAHAN: The streetlights along the Tambey-Sampun Road are now nearly fully operational, bringing much-needed benefits to the local communities in the area.
Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang expressed her gratitude for the progress, stressing the importance of safeguarding the infrastructure from vandalism and theft.
“Alhamdulillah, the streetlights are finally illuminating the road, ensuring safety and convenience for residents.
“However, I urge everyone to take responsibility in protecting this shared asset from irresponsible acts,” she said in a Facebook post.
Rubiah, who is the local MP, said that theft and vandalism were among the main reasons for delays in completing the project.
She lamented the actions of a few individuals that caused significant setbacks, leaving the community to endure extended periods of darkness.
“As the Malay proverb goes, ‘dek kerana nila setitik, rosak susu sebelanga’ — a single act of greed and recklessness has caused suffering for the entire community,” she said.
The MP called on residents to remain vigilant against such behaviours, stressing that the safety and convenience provided by the streetlights are collective responsibilities.
“Let us ensure that the efforts made to improve our roads are not in vain.
“These streetlights are not just a convenience but also a vital safety measure for all road users,” she added.
