KUCHING: The Sarawak government places strong emphasis on education as a core policy in shaping a brighter future.
Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman stated that academic excellence requires continuous efforts to overcome challenges in education, including preparation and environmental factors affecting students.
In this regard, the STPM 2024 Workshop for DUN Tupong was organised to prepare students for the STPM examinations and provide them with motivation.
“This workshop aims to enhance access to higher education and nurture a culture of excellence among students.”
Fazzrudin said this in his speech, delivered Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) president Zulkiflee Sebli, at the Sarawak Foundation Auditorium, Wisma Adenan, today (Dec 23).
He expressed hope that with such commitment, the goal of building a better future for the Sarawakian community can be achieved.
Earlier, the workshop, held throughout the day, involved 200 students from three schools in the Tupong constituency, namely SMK Matang Jaya, SMK Petra Jaya, and SMKA Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab.
The programme focused on key STPM subjects, including Bahasa Melayu, History, General Studies and Visual Arts.
He highlighted that programmes like this workshop reflect the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and ensuring a brighter future for Sarawakian students.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by students, including preparation and environmental factors, he assured attendees that the workshop aimed to provide students with the tools and motivation needed to excel in their STPM examinations.
He also touched on the Sarawak government’s efforts to address barriers to education, citing the 2025 Budget initiatives introduced by the Sarawak Premier, including a RM1,200 allowance for students in higher education, book vouchers, and free laptops.
The Premier’s aspiration to implement free education at Sarawak government-owned universities in selected specialisations by 2026 was also highlighted.
“Students were encouraged to seize these opportunities, urging them to work hard and show determination in their academic pursuits.”
