KUCHING: The Salvation Army has received a large number of items donated by the public since the start of the movement control order (MCO).
This has resulted in its warehouse getting overflowed due to its limited capacity.
Corps Officer at The Salvation Army Kuching Captain Raymond Rubi Aloba noted that like all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) during this pandemic, The Salvation Army is currently on a limited budget.
“We are pleading for generous owners of unoccupied shop lots in Kuching to help us by lending us the space to store our goods,” he said.
He added that as for now, they are currently occupying two storerooms on complimentary terms, thanks to the generosity of the current owner.
However, owing to the MCO, they have been unable to fully operate their Family Thrift Store at Jalan Petanak resulting in them accumulating many items including over 10,000 bags of clothing. Now the owner of the premises wants them to vacate the storerooms as soon as possible.
“Of course, it is best if we can occupy another shop lot preferably near Jalan Petanak at no cost for another year, but we are also open to any good deals from any willing and kind owners of unoccupied shop lots,” said Aloba.
The Family Thrift Store generates income by selling items to support the mission of The Salvation Army to provide holistic care to the community and is one of the oldest organisations in the world to operate and continue the thrift store concept to this day.
