KUCHING: Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has urged Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh to stop playing politics over the logjam incident in Baleh.

Nanta said he had never missed the bigger picture about the logjam issues as alleged by Wong.

He pointed out that Wong was a former state cabinet minister and indeed was part of the Sarawak government that had approved many logging licences in the past.

“Throughout all these years, even until today, he has been known to be closely associated with the logging companies operating in the logjam areas in Baleh.

“Wong, please do not dispute this, for once be honest about it,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Sept 5).

He acknowledged that Sibu has had problems with its water source, heavily silted water of Batang Rajang caused by logging activities, which became a constant nuisance and burden on the Sibu population.

“But as I have mentioned, Wong had been part of the problem in the first place. His long participation in the top flight of the Sarawak government leadership that permitted logging in Baleh, Kapit and all the way along the Batang Rajang areas must surely make him accountable too.

“If Wong denies his contributory negligence, then we should wonder why we never hear of his protest and dissenting voice on the issuance and continued renewals of the logging permits to companies operating in the area.

“Wong, why being dumb on the logjam when it occurred in 2010? Was it not because you were part of the government then?” Nanta asked.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister told Wong that enough is enough and urged him to give respect to the rural population in Kapit.

“Enough of your wayang bangsawan or Chinese opera, you never really cared for us in the longhouses, in the rural areas of Baleh, nor in Kapit town,” he said.

Nanta said Wong was just merely playing politics, trying very hard to portray himself as a so-called champion for the native people of Kapit.

“No, you have never been someone who care for us in Kapit, never was, not now and never will ever be.”
