BINTULU: Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip has urged individuals to stop allegations that the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocations are put directly into the assemblymen’s account.

According to him, the allocations were channelled through a project warrant by the State Financial Secretary Office to the divisional Resident’s Office. Therefore, the assemblymen or their service centres would not get this provision directly.

“RTP funds are managed by the Resident’s Office where the assemblyman will provide them with a list of projects to be implemented.

“This list is obtained from the requests of the ‘rakyat’ or village security and development committees (JKKK) where the RTP division committee will hold a meeting to determine the priority of each project with a total limit of not more than RM5 million,” he said yesterday.

Talib, who is the Jepak assemblyman, added that the RTP was introduced by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem who felt this was an approach to accelerate the development of rural infrastructure.

Further elaborating, he said these funds of RM5 million per year for each state constituency are given by the state government, in contrast to the Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) where its financial resources are from the federal government.

“If there is any doubt, the public may refer this matter to the Resident’s Office to get the right enlightenment instead of making allegations,” Talib said.
