KUCHING: Sarawak needs problem solvers so the young should make an effort to be well versed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
“We need all of this because there are many problems out there we need to solve, without you all, we cannot solve the problems,” said Sarawak Science Centre interim CEO Shariman Jamil.
He made these remarks at the opening of a Girls Code programme at the Bug Crusher coding competition yesterday.
Since the state will need more problem solvers, he expects that more of these programmes will be held in the near future.
“Therefore, young people are strongly encouraged to participate in programmes like this to increase the number of them involved in the related sector,” said Shariman who is also Head of Talent Development at the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development.
The coding competition saw 10 teams of students from various schools in Sarawak solving a bug issue on a website.
Five teams from primary schools and five more from secondary schools were split into junior and senior categories, with three students on each team working with a teacher.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development in collaboration with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation and Real Fun Learning Center and supported by Sarawak Education Department.
