SIBU: The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Trailblazers Sarawak 2024 programme serves as a bridge between students and scientists, where the study of science and technology goes beyond remembering formulas or theoretical concepts.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the programme emphasises applying what the students study in the real world.
“With a hands-on experiential learning environment, STEM Trailblazers will enable students to tackle real-world problems, innovate, and create tangible solutions.
“This approach ensures that our students are not just passive learners but active participants in the scientific community, ready to make meaningful contributions and impact,” he said.
He was officiating at the 2024 STEM Trailblazers at Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here, today.
Sagah said the programme will provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, collaborate with peers, and connect with industry mentors.
“It will challenge them to think critically, solve complex problems, and develop innovative solutions to our day-to-day problems,” he added.
Meanwhile, UTS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the event is not just a competition; it is a celebration of knowledge, creativity, and innovation.
He said it is an opportunity for students to learn, understand, experience, and be inspired to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
“STEM education is critical to our nation’s future. It equips our young minds with the necessary skills to excel in an increasingly technological and data-driven world.
“Today, we are proud to host competitions that cover a wide range of exciting and future-oriented disciplines, from the Raspberry Pi projects at the primary school level to the Robomaster and drone competitions for secondary school students, and research-oriented projects for our undergraduate students,” he said.
About 2,600 students and teachers from across the state are participating in the two-day programme.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and MEITD permanent secretary Adana Jed.
