KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has released a special Chinese New Year ang pao featuring the Bornean Palm Pit Viper, an endemic species found in Sarawak’s Mulu and Gunung Gading National Parks.
Starting today, the limited-edition ang pao is available at Visitors Information Centres in Kuching, Miri, and Sibu.
Now in its seventh year, STB’s annual ang pao initiative celebrates Sarawak’s vibrant cultural and natural heritage.
This year’s design, inspired by the Year of the Wood Snake, incorporates elegant gold stamping and the Bornean Palm Pit Viper to symbolise resilience, growth, and biodiversity.
“This initiative underscores STB’s commitment to fostering greater appreciation of Sarawak’s unique ecosystems through responsible tourism,” it said in a press release today.
STB chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor said the ang pao highlights Sarawak’s vital ecosystems and encourages greater conservation awareness.
“Through meaningful initiatives like this, we aim to inspire residents and visitors to discover and protect Sarawak’s natural heritage,” she added.
The campaign emphasises Sarawak’s position as a premier eco-tourism destination by blending cultural traditions with a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Residents and visitors are invited to collect the ang pao and join in celebrating Sarawak’s biodiversity and sustainability efforts.
