KUCHING: People in Sarawak have been told not to let their guard down although Covid-19 numbers are now relatively low in the state.
Everyone should instead continue to observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in view of the emergence of the Omicron variant worldwide.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who gave the reminder this was the only way to ensure normality returns to life in the shortest time.
“We may be able to return to normalcy in the near future but this requires the collaboration and the support of each and every Sarawakian,” he said when visiting the integrated vaccination centre (PPV) at The Spring Shopping Mall here on Tuesday (Jan 18).
He said as of Jan 17, a total of 2,131,681 or 75.7 per cent of Sarawak’s population had been fully vaccinated.
“A total of 1,874,531 or 91.8 per cent of Sarawakians aged 18 and above have completed both Covid-19 vaccine shots while 258,150 or 88 per cent of youth aged 12 to 17 have been fully vaccinated,” he said.
Uggah, also chairs the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reiterated the importance of being vigilant and to adhere to the SOPs.
“Please take care as it is important to look after our health and with that we will be able to control the spread of Covid-19 in Sarawak,” he said.
Besides the integrated PPV in Kuching at The Spring Shopping Mall, two public PPVs, one at Serian and Serian, and one public PPV each at Limbang and at UTS Sibu are administering the booster shots.
Apart from that, 77 private clinics, 12 private hospitals and 136 public health clinics are also administering the booster shots.
