LAWAS: Efforts to connect Limbang and Lawas to the Sarawak electricity grid will benefit Sabah and thus improving the cooperative relationship between the two states, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said the effort will ensure that Limbang receives sufficient electricity supply consistently.

Awang Tengah said this is to further enable the utility to be exported to Sabah with the relevant agreement signed.

“The state through the Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) will supply electricity to Sabah.

“Our electricity supply here is mostly generated through renewable energy sources such as hydropower,” he said at the Ihya Ramadan Perdana Borneo programme in conjunction with the Nuzul Al-Quran celebration held at Masjid Sahabat, Merapok-Sindumin, recently.

The programme was also attended by representatives from Sabah namely Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah and Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah also said that the Sarawak government has a masterplan to continue developing the Merapok area, including building infrastructure such as offices and residences.
