KUCHING: MAKSAK Sarawak netball team claim the runner-up spot after losing 39-19 against Federal Territories Kuala Lumpur at the MAKSAK Games 2024 finals.
However, their performance at the Paroi Sports Complex in Negeri Sembilan will go down in history as their utmost-best for the competition.
Wing-back player Izumi Nillie, 25, though disappointed by the result, remained upbeat about the team’s effort.
“We felt sorry for disappointing our supporters, but we really gave our all. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side that day,” she said, reflecting on the team’s spirited performance.
Despite the setback, Izumi was quick to highlight the pride the team felt in their achievement, noting that their performance marked a new high for MAKSAK Sarawak in the competition’s history.
“We were really satisfied with the result. This was by far our best performance in the MAKSAK netball competition, and we’re hopeful for even better results in the future,” she added.
In addition to their impressive on-court display, MAKSAK Sarawak were also recognised for their exemplary sportsmanship, receiving the prestigious ‘Fair Play’ award at the MAKSAK Games 2024 Netball Tournament.
The accolade acknowledged the team’s commitment to fair play and respect throughout the competition.
While the loss might have been tough to take, the event marked a historic milestone for MAKSAK Sarawak, with the team optimistic about their continued growth and future success in upcoming tournaments.
As runners-up, MAKSAK Sarawak were awarded RM1,000 and medals in recognition of their outstanding achievement, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players throughout the competition.
