KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak targets to have one Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) in every State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency.
This was pointed out by Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah when officiating at the Mushroom House in PDK Samarahan, yesterday.
“Up to date, Sarawak has 49 PDKs; our target is to get one PDK in every DUN because our state is big and every DUN has a big area compared to those in Peninsular Malaysia. Therefore, we cannot have PDK using the parliament area as a yardstick.
“This year, we will open up the new PDK namely PDK Nangka in Sibu and PDM Daro in Mukah. The application is completed and we wait for the National PDK Grant Committee Meeting after March 31, 2017, for the result,” said Fatimah.
Meanwhile, Fatimah also said that, the government has appointed contract appointments to eight health officers to PDK in Kuching, Miri and Sibu zone.
“They are three U29 Occupational Therapists, three U29 Therapist Medical Personnel and two U41 Speech Medical Rehabilitation Officers.
“It is to give a basic training in terms of movement, speech, special education and skills in daily activities among the disabled,” she noted.
