State records 201 new Covid-19 cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 201 new positive Covid-19 cases on Sunday (March 7), bringing the state’s tally to 11,096.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that of the total positive cases, 75 were recorded in Sibu District, Kapit (37), Bau (18), Miri (16), Kuching (12), Betong (nine), eight cases each in Bintulu and Sri Aman, Serian (seven), Selangau (three), two cases each in Julau and Lundu, and one case each in Meradong, Pusa, Samarahan and Sarikei.

Of the 75 cases in Sibu District, 42 involved a new cluster dubbed as Jalan Awang Cluster, 27 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD), two cases linked to Kiba Cluster, two involved medical workers at health facilities, and two were symptomatic cases screened at the health centres.

In Kapit District, 19 of the cases were linked to Gelong Cluster and 18 were individuals screened through ACD.

All 18 cases reported in Bau District were individuals screened through ACD.

In Miri District, the committee said that 13 cases were individuals screened through ACD, one was asymptomatic case, one involved a medical worker at a health facility and one symptomatic case.

In Kuching District, six cases were linked to the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, three were individuals screened at health centres, one involved Jalan Ho Pin Cluster, one from ACD and one import case involving a Sarawakian who had returned from Selangor.

In Betong District, eight cases involved Jalan Muhibbah Cluster while one case was from ACD.

In Bintulu District, five cases were from ACD, two cases of individual screenings and one import case involving a Sarawakian returning from Johor.

All cases recorded in Sri Aman, Selangau, Pusa and Sarikei districts were from ACD while Serian District recorded six cases from ACD and one case linked to Emperoh Jambu Cluster.

In Julau District, one case was from ACD and one case from individual screening.

The positive case in Samarahan District was from an individual screening while the one case in Meradong District was an import case involving an individual returning from Sibu.
