SIBU: The Sarawak government has approved an initial allocation for planning a housing project in Teku here, specifically for young married couples.
Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the initiative is designed to support newlyweds in starting their lives together.
“I humbly request Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to grant (full) approval for this project to be implemented as soon as possible,” he said.
He made these remarks in his welcoming speech at the Sibu Division Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering here, last night (Apr 4).
However, Dr Annuar, who is also the Nangka assemblyman, did not disclose further details about the project, but noted that the state government has carried out numerous development projects in Sibu.
Thus, he called on all communities in Sibu to continue supporting the Sarawak government under the leadership of Abang Johari.
“The development brought about by the state government is evident. Therefore, I dare say that the people of Sibu will continue to stand with Abang Johari to ensure that all planned development can be successfully implemented and bring benefits to the people of Sibu,” he added.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Abang Johari expressed his support for the project.
“This is the first time I’ve heard the term ‘housing for young couples’—it’s a new terminology. No problem, we will develop this housing in Teku,” he said.
He emphasised that the town will remain busy until 2035 due to the Sarawak government’s capital injections into the economy as well as various projects to transform it into a modern city.
“This means Sibu, Miri, and Kuching—the whole of Sarawak—is moving towards becoming a developed state beyond 2030,” he added.
He stressed that all of this is only possible with political stability and racial unity in Sarawak, and expressed hope that the state’s revenue will surpass last year’s record.
