State library holds book launch, talk session

KUCHING: A book launching ceremony and talk session were organised by the Sarawak State Library, Petra Jaya near here, today.

The book titled “Budaya Ilmu” was officially launched at the Galeri of Sarawak State Library.

In attendance was Sarawak State Library Board of Management chairman, Tan Sri Haji Hamid Bugo, the book author, Professor Dr Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud, Sarawak State Library deputy chief executive officer (services), Arpah Adenan, Sarawak State Library deputy chief executive officer (operations) Japri Bujang Masli and Sarawak Forestry Department director, Hamden Mohammad.

In his speech, the book author Dr Wan said that knowledge is the essence of human beings and that tree-planting programmes are connected to knowledge.

“I believe society is one to educate their community. In the Quran it is stated, good knowledge is like a seed planted with very strong roots to produce very tall and beautiful trees reaching to the skies with fruits that benefit humans and animals as well.”

He also mentioned that skills and knowledge are one.

“Both can’t be truly utilised if the presence of the other is absent,” he said.

The book author Professor Dr Wan Mohd delivers his speech.

Prof Dr Wan is the founder and former director of Pusat Pengajian Tinggi, Sains and Peradaban (CASIS), UTM. He is also deputy director of International Institute of Islamic Through and Civilisation (ISTAC) under the leadership of Tan Sri Professor Dr Syed Mohammad Naquib al-Attas.

The book is written especially for scholars, educators, politicians, university students, community activists, administrators, professionals and parents in efforts to inculcate self-development, culture and civilization with knowledge.
