State-level PACC to shape way forward in O & G

KUCHING: The state-level Petroleum Advisory and Coordination Committee (PACC) has a great responsibility entrusted to the Committee which will shape the way forward in the state oil and gas journey towards achieving the aspirations of Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who recently chaired the inaugural meeting of the PACC said this in his opening remarks.

He also said that members of the committee are reminded to work together putting aside any differences and contribute towards this journey.

“This journey is a significant milestone to complement all the achievements which will be worth celebrating during the upcoming 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence within Malaysia,” he said in a press release yesterday.

On PACC, it was formalised by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in January 2023 to facilitate the development of Oil and Gas Industry in Sarawak.

The Committee will be the avenue for state ministries and agencies to review and coordinate policy development and regulations on oil and gas matters, facilitate internal alignment and endorsement for Sarawak’s strategic and growth projects related to petroleum including Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) projects and review reports from respective PACC committees as well as to play an advisory role to YAB Premier on the appropriate direction for the state oil and gas agenda.

The inaugural meeting also deliberated on an enhancement of the existing collaborative framework under the Commercial Settlement Agreement (CSA) between the Sarawak government and PETRONAS which could improve the synergy of the workgroups comprising state ministries, agencies and PETRONAS, enabling more effective consultation pertaining to policy matters and activities towards further participation of PETROS in upstream activities, security of domestic gas supply for industries as well as power, business & investment opportunities for Sarawak companies in PETRONAS’ global and domestic operations, human capital development for Sarawakians and CSR Programmes.
PACC is made up of eleven (11) senior members representing state ministries, key government agencies and state GLCs with jurisdiction and expertise on the state oil and gas matters.

They are Awang Tengah as the PACC Chairman, State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, State Attorney General Datuk Seri Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning & Development) Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, group chief executive officer, Sarawak Energy Berhad Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, permanent secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources & Urban Development Datuk Sr Zaidi Mahdi, group chief executive officer, PETROS Janin Girie, permanent secretary, Ministry of International Trade, Industry & Investment Sarawak Dzulkornain Masron, permanent secretary, Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Jafri Lias, permanent secretary, Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak Abg Ahmad Abg Morni and director, Economic Planning Unit Sarawak Lester Matthew.
