KUCHING : Integrity must be made as our culture, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed. He said if there is integrity the state will be safe and the people will also be safe. Johari said there are some countries being called failed states because their leaders do not have integrity.
He said they had allocation from the World Bank but the allocation was not well managed to develop projects from the World Bank.
In Africa, he said what happened in Africa is that in terms of resources they are very rich and the World Bank helps them but the money doesn’t go to the project but goes to the pocket of their leaders. And there were coup d’etats and changes of military leaders in the governments and presidents and military leaders again keep on changing.
“This is written in the Book ‘Failed State’. God’s willing we will not get there,” he said in his speech at “Amanat Integriti 2017 Bersama YAB Ketua Menteri Sarawak” organised by the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity & Ombudsman) at Pullman Hotel here yesterday.
Attended by the members of the cabinet, state legislative assembly persons, members of the civil services, community leaders, the theme was ‘Empowering Integrity & Governance for Sustainable Development’.
Quoting Alber t Einstein’s “Integrity without Knowledge is weak and useless, and Knowledge without Integrity is dangerous and dreadful.”, Johari said integrity will be more dangerous because of misuse of knowledge.
He stressed, “We must have a high sense of accountability. Accountability to God is a universal value and It is a paramount platform for us to realise that in whatever we do. Johari lauded the civil service and also the Sarawak people that in the audit report every year Sarawak is given a healthy certificate.
