KUCHING: Thirteen quarantine centres for Covid-19 have been identified in the state, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah who is also the State Disaster Management Committee chairman said the committee was still in the midst of identifying other suitable locations as quarantine centres in other districts.
The 13 quarantine centres are the Ministry of Health (KKM) Training Institute in Kuching, Petronas Sports Village in Miri, Kemunyang Youth Camp in Sibu, Limbang Indoor Stadium, Similajau National Park in Bintulu, Lawas Indoor Stadium, Rumah Temuai in Kapit, Institute for Rural Advancement (Infra) Sarawak Campus in Kota Samarahan, Intan in Kota Samarahan, Rumah Rehat in Sri Aman, Sibu Nursing College, Limbang Civic Centre and Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak (Ikmas) in Kuching.
Uggah revealed this in a press conference streamed live on Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday.
“For the Covid-19 screening, the Sarawak government is using the Youth and Sports Complex at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce as a screening centre, which was opened on March 21,” he said.
He said a total of 1,771 individuals have been screened with 642 samples taken, and 14 positive cases reported.
“Therefore, I urged those who have any close contact or casual contact with Covid-19 to come to the centre so that they can be screened,” he said.
As for those linked to the tabligh cluster, Uggah said 682 persons have come forward to the hospital since the first day the government appealed to them to get checked.
Asked whether disinfection of the Covid-19 red zone areas in the state will be carried out, Uggah said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian would make the assessment on where the disinfection process is appropriate and to ensure it is effective.
