KUCHING: The Sarawak government has taken a positive step in delaying the implementation of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in the state.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this shows that the state is concerned for and prioritises the safety and health of the people first during this Covid-19 outbreak.
“Looking at the current situation in the state, the MCO cannot be relaxed yet,” he said in a statement in response to the state’s decision for not enforcing CMCO and reopen several economic sectors today (May 4) as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He added another wave of infection could hit the people if the MCO is not strictly adhered to.
“If the CMCO were to be enforced, another concern would for those working and who need to travel one district to another, as this will cause a wider spread of the disease,” he said.
He said it would be very dangerous when those from red zones travel to green zones as the virus could spread and create a new cluster.
“Therefore, the existing MCO in the state should not be relaxed first as to further protect the people from this pandemic,” he said.
