BETONG: Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi has urged the state government to intensify efforts on prioritising and implementing development in rural areas.
The vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) stressed the need for comprehensive upgrades to essential infrastructure such as water supply systems, electricity networks, gas facilities, telecommunications, and internet coverage.
“We must transform the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors in Sarawak by building more agricultural infrastructure and applying the latest technologies, as well as implementing more systematic marketing systems.
“We also must accelerate and intensify efforts to rebuild and repair dilapidated schools across Sarawak.
“Immediate and serious action from the Ministry of Education is urgently required,” he said when presenting the resolutions of PBB Betong Zone during the delegates meeting at Dewan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan here Saturday (Jan 25).
Julaihi, who is Sebuyau assemblyman, stressed the importance of stabilising electricity supply in Betong constituency to ensure it meets the growing demands of the population.
Additionally, he proposed the expansion of fiber optic networks in various areas within the constituency, including Sebuyau, Lingga, Beting Maro, Saribas, Bukit Saban, Layar, Kalaka, Kabong, and Saratok, to enhance telecommunications and internet access.
As part of the resolutions, Julaihi expressed the unwavering support of the 14 PBB Betong Zone branches for the leadership of party president, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The delegates also expressed their support for the unopposed retention of the two PBB Deputy Presidents, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, as well as the two Senior Vice Presidents, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
On the same note, he said the delegates supported the strategic steps taken by PBB and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in demanding respect and recognition for Sarawak as an equal partner within Malaysia.
He reiterated that the PBB branches in the Betong Zone have once again proposed increasing the number of parliamentary constituencies in Sarawak and Sabah to at least 35 per cent of the total seats in the Dewan Rakyat.
This aims to ensure that any important decisions in parliament, including constitutional amendments, take into account the voices of the people of Sarawak and Sabah.
“We are determined to ensure that the status and role of PBB remain dominant as the backbone party of GPS leadership and the Sarawak government.
“We continue to remind the component parties of GPS that any actions or decisions that may undermine the spirit of unity, understanding, and stability within GPS should be referred through the proper channels.
“Decisions must be made through consultation and with the agreement and consensus of PBB and the other component parties within GPS,” he added.
