SSM training module for GLCs proposed

KUCHING: The Sarawak government will work with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) to further strengthen the management of government-linked companies (GLCs) in the state.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) report, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol said a proposal had been given to SSM to create a training module for board members and company secretaries.

“The training aims to strengthen the skills of the top management as well as improve the performance of their respective companies.”

Abdullah said this when met by the media after attending SSM’s Majlis Salam Aidilfitri event here on Tuesday (May 24).

Meanwhile, Sarawak SSM director Ramle Leen said this collaboration would be implemented through SSM’s training centre, the Companies Commission of Malaysia Training Academy (COMTRAC).

In another development, Ramle also said SSM had created various initiatives to help entrepreneurs, especially corporate bodies, affected by the pandemic.

“Among the initiatives include a 90 per cent reduction in compound for the cancellation of the company name as well as the extension of the SSM BizTrust registration period where no charge will be imposed for registration by any business.”
