KUCHING: The Sarawak Ship for Southeast Asia and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) Alumni Association (SAA) successfully held its Ninth Annual General Meeting (AGM) today.
This marks another significant step in the association’s journey to unite, serve and develop former SSEAYP participants from Sarawak.
SAA president Chew Kim Soon expressed his gratitude for the continued support from members.
He reiterated that the association remains committed to nurturing future leaders and upholding the core values of friendship, cultural exchange and community service promoted by SSEAYP.
“SAA will continue to build bridges of communication among youth, empower our alumni, and give back to our beloved Sarawak,” he said in a press release issued by SAA today.
He also specifically mentioned that, as a friendly bridge between Sarawak and international communities, SAA plays a crucial role in promoting international cultural exchanges.
“Through interactions and collaborations with youths from different countries, SAA not only fosters friendship between Sarawak and other nations but also provides valuable opportunities for members to enhance cross-cultural understanding and cooperation.
“SAA will continue to strengthen its influence on the global stage and further promote Sarawak’s cultural and youth exchanges internationally.
“I looks forward to more interactions between SAA and the community in the future and welcomes all SSEAYP alumni from Sarawak to actively participate in the upcoming activities and initiatives,” he said.
Meanwhile, SAA vice president Datuk Wan Mohammad Zain Mohd Hashim pointed out that SSA is a registered organisation under the Malaysian Registrar of Societies (ROS).
It is dedicated to safeguarding the rights and well-being of Sarawak’s SSEAYP members.
“The association also actively promotes harmony, understanding and well-being among its members, fostering a strong sense of community belonging and volunteerism.
“SAA members are not only ambassadors of cultural exchange but also active leaders in local youth development.
“They are widely involved in various fields, including education, community service, entrepreneurship and public service, making significant contributions to the social development of Sarawak,” he said.
He added that their engagement continues to inspire and empower the new generation of youth in Sarawak.
“This year’s AGM brought together alumni from various generations and backgrounds, showcasing the diversity and shared experiences of Sarawak’s SSEAYP representatives.
“The meeting focused on strategic plans for youth involvement, new community outreach activities, and strengthening collaboration with state and national-level organisations,” he added.
