SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) is seriously monitoring the quality of services provided by its contractors.

These services include scavenging and maintenance.

Chairman of SRDC, Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said the contractors must improve their services. Otherwise, they must go.

“The quality of the contractors’ services directly reflects the image of the council.

“SRDC has conducted several dialogues with the Councillors as the policy makers, the staff as the supervisors of the work and lastly, the contractors whose jobs are to implement the work.

“If any one of the three fails, then the council has failed the people.

“We cannot afford to fail as we have promised to give good and efficient services to the taxpayers. This is stated in our oath of office when we accepted our appointment as Councilors,” Sempurai told a press conference held after the SRDC full council meeting here on Friday.

He urged members of the public to protect the council facilities from vandalism and advised them not to dump industrial waste and rubbish outside the Council Bin Centre indiscriminately.

He said some residents alleged that the scavenging contractor had not collected the rubbish when in fact it was thrown or dumped outside the rubbish bin and Bin Centre by the members of the public themselves.
