KAPIT: Dilapidated schools in the rural areas of Sarawak and Sabah will be given special attention in the presentation of the 2023 Budget on February 24.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said the development of schools in Sarawak is also listed in the project under RM50 million which is fully delegated to the state government to implement.

“Education is very important for all while saying students today are very fortunate to have many learning facilities for their comfort,” he was quoted as saying in a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

He said this at the 2022 Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Selirik Outstanding Student Award Ceremony at the school hall here on Friday.

Ugak who is also the Hulu Rajang MP also urged parents to monitor their children’s activities to avoid getting caught up in drug problems that are a threat to schools.

He also advised Form 5 students to prepare for the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam and announced an allocation of RM20,000 to PIBG SMK Selirik, RM5,000 for teachers, and RM10,000 for PPD Kapit.

Ugak also requested the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) to estimate the cost of repairing the school gate.
