KUCHING: Standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance must start at home, said Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
He pointed out that some people still took the SOPs lightly.
“The problem is awareness and attitude of few individuals who may either be ignorant or refuse to understand the SOPs,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday (June 20).
“Awareness must start at home, then the village and community as whole before we can arrive at the district, division and finally state level,” pointed out Henry.
He was commenting on Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s recent remarks that lack of unity among Malaysians in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic had contributed to the high number of positive cases.
National news agency, Bernama on June 19 reported that Dr Noor Hisham, in his speech, at the first Malaysia International Webinar on Psychological First Aid organised by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), admitted that the SOP compliance by the public was still an issue although the pandemic had already been around for more than a year.
“I think this is lacking because there is actually discordance in terms of our unity. Instead of fighting against the virus, we are fighting against each other in terms of opinions, approaches, etcetera,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
