MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leadership council member, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, did not deny that some people had tried to prevent PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming prime minister.
“I do not see any issue between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar but sadly, some party members are trying to sabotage the power transition,” he told 1,000 delegates who attended Sarawak PKR Convention 2019 at Pullman Hotel yesterday.
He insisted that he was not fanatical about Anwar being prime minister, but the matter was stated in Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto during the 14th general election (GE14).
As the convention director, he explained that the meeting was not to override or disrespect the autonomy of Sarawak PKR.
“I agree that we should respect the autonomy but we are in one organisation, so we need to respect that too,” he said.
Party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated at the convention which was not attended by Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian and some of his fellow council members who did not want the convention to be held.
The Sarawak PKR leadership council decided to cancel the convention as a protest against PKR Central’s decision to disinvite deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali from officiating at PKR Youth Congress in Melaka next month.
