BINTULU: The Jepak by-election process went on smoothly and peacefully with no reports of any election-related crimes, police said on Saturday.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said from the nomination of candidates on Oct 21 until polling day (Nov 4), there were no incidents reported in connection with the by-election.
“There were no problems. From nomination of candidates to campaign period to polling, it was peaceful and controlled.
“But we did receive five minor reports regarding the loss of campaign flags and other non-election-related matters,” he said in a press conference at the Bintulu Civic Centre.
When asked about illegal betting on the Jepak by-election results, he confirmed that no such reports had been received.
The smooth and peaceful by-election can be attributed to the vigilant efforts of the police force which deployed a total of 624 police officers and personnel to oversee the process.
