MIRI: A total of 154 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lutong here recently participated in Curtin University Malaysia’s Science Experiment Showcase: Fun with Science programme.

The hands-on experience ignited curiosity among Form One and Form Two students, aiming to make science both accessible and enjoyable while supporting Sarawak’s goal of increasing STEM participation by 2026.
Organised by Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, and led by its students, the showcase featured experiments that connected classroom concepts to real-world applications, including Elephant Toothpaste reactions, Lava Lamps, and Non-Newtonian Fluids.
Project advisor Jenney Ng highlighted that these activities not only illustrated fundamental chemistry and physics principles but also introduced students to potential careers and scholarships in STEM.
“When students engage with science interactively, they develop critical thinking skills and a passion for discovery.
“This initiative reflects Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing young scientific minds and contributing to Sarawak’s vision of a skilled STEM workforce,” she said.
The organisers hope such initiatives will continue to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators in Sarawak.
