KUCHING: SM Sains Kuching Utara received a School Average Grade (GPS) of 1.65 points, making it the top-performing school in Sarawak for 2023.
Meanwhile, 19 secondary schools across Sarawak achieved a 100 per cent SPM certificate eligibility rate for 2023, including SM Sains Kuching Utara, SM Sains Miri, and SM Sains Kuching.
Additionally,SMK Agama Miri, Datuk Patinggi Abang Hj Abdillah College, Tun Datu Tuanku Hj Bujang College, SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi, SMK Agama Sheikh Hj Othman Abdul Wahab, and SMK Agama Sibu.
Furthermore, Chung Cheng Secondary School, SMK Agama Matang 2, SMK Agama Limbang, SMK Agama Saratok, SMK Balleh, SMK Tabuan Jaya, SMK Bukit Lima, SMK Tutoh Apoh, SMK Bekenu, and SMK Pesantren Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Sarawak Education Director Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad stated that integrating excellent academic achievement with accomplishments in extracurricular activities and noble character would add value to a student, enabling them to move forward more successfully.
He added that such achievements are crucial because securing employment opportunities is highly challenging nowadays.
“The competition for employment opportunities is fierce in this era. Therefore, children must maintain their momentum of excellence at the next level of education.
“There are many opportunities that can be explored and participated in at the university level to hone skills and develop a passion for the fields they are interested in.
“In fact, it is not impossible for children to explore new fields that may not be offered in school as a form of exposure and development of talent and self-potential.”
He said this while officiating the SPM 2023 Examination Excellence Appreciation Ceremony at the State Education Department (JPN) auditorium here yesterday.
While motivating the students, he urged them to always maintain a positive outlook on the fields they will pursue in the future.
“Do not falter when challenges arise. As the saying goes, if you don’t break the rattan, how can you get the pith? This is in line with the saying, where there is a will, there is a way,” he said.
