Skoda is readying its next Octavia for a launch in the first half of 2020 after a world premiere in mid-November.
Arriving first as an estate and later as a notchback, the Czech cousin of the VW Golf will again be built on Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform, while at the same time adding more space by expanding in all dimensions.
In particular, the boot of the estate has grown in size, now holding 640 litres, 30 litres more than before.
The new generation promises a few noticeable design changes both outside and in, and, for the first time, the Octavia is getting LED matrix headlights and a head-up display.
The virtual cockpit is also bigger and can be configured more flexibly, Skoda says. New safety systems such as a steer assist for avoiding potential crashes and a warning system when you exit the car are also included.
Better aerodynamics and optimised engines have helped the car to reduce CO2 emissions up to 14 per cent, the VW subsidiary says.
Like the new VW Golf, the Octavia will be available with petrol engines with a 48-volt hybrid motor, as a plug-in model in two performance levels, in a new diesel generation with up to 80 per cent less nitrogen oxide emissions and as a CNG model for operation with natural gas. – dpa
