KUCHING: An Indonesian fishing boat skipper was handed a fine of RM1 million or six months in prison by the Sessions Court here, Monday (Apr 29), for trespassing into Malaysian waters, on March 8.
Hamsu Rajukin, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.
He and his three crew members failed to inform the authorities via radio, telex or facsimile either in English or Bahasa Malaysia about the name, flag, location, amount of fish carried, route and destination as well as the condition of the boat upon entering Malaysian waters.
Afidah handed the three crew members, Firdaus, 39, Hendrik, 31, and Redo, 43, a fine of RM100,000 or six months in prison for the same offence.
They committed the offence at 52.6 nautical miles from Tanjung Sirik, Sarawak which is a Malaysian fishing area, at about 4.20am, on March 8.
Among the items confiscated were a boat, a GPS unit, a solar panel unit, a boat engine, a compass, a VHF radio, four battery units, diesel oil of around 250 litres and about 150 kilogrammes of fish.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Azham Marwan prosecuted the case.
