DARO: Rural communities in Sarawak can now register for the Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) programme at their convenience, as the Sarawak government has organised a year-long roadshow campaign to assist with the registration process.

According to Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, government agencies and service centres would travel to remote areas to ensure all eligible individuals receive this assistance.

“This campaign aims to ensure no one is left behind, especially those in rural areas.

“This effort aligns with the Sarawak government’s commitment to empower the people through the digital economy,” he said following the launch of the new MySRBN network coverage on Pulau Bruit, here today.

Abdullah also informed that as for rejected applications, individuals may file an appeal, provided they meet the requirements, such as having the ‘K’ indicator on their identity card.

“The development of digital infrastructure, including internet coverage in rural areas, is one of the main reasons SKAS is introduced in the form of digital vouchers.

“This approach not only simplifies the purchase of essential items but also educates rural communities on the importance of digital technology in daily life,” he added.

The introduction of the new MySRBN coverage on Pulau Bruit, which is part of this initiative, is expected to accelerate efforts to digitise rural areas.

“With the MySRBN facilities, the community now has better access to the internet, making the SKAS registration process smoother,” he explained.

He emphasised that this mission is not only to assist with registration but also to enhance the digital literacy of the people, in line with the state government’s vision of making digital technology an integral part of everyday life.

Meanwhile, during a press conference, Abdullah also urged the public to cooperate with the roadshow teams and take advantage of the facilities provided.

“The government is committed to ensuring that SKAS assistance reaches all eligible individuals, regardless of their location,” he said.
