BETONG: Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam has appealed to the Education Ministry to expedite the construction of new school building to house Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sebemban here.
He noted that the existing school building was not only decaying but beyond repair.
“The school really need a new building at a new site. The existing site is not suitable due to river erosion,” he added.
He told Sarawak Voice after visiting the school yesterday that river erosion was getting worse.
According to Mohammad Razi, apart from the six-classroom building, the teachers’ quarters were also in a dilapidated condition.
He said the state government has identified a site, about three kilometres from the existing school, for the new project.
“I was made to understand that the new site, encompassing 48,538 square metre, has been acquired at a cost of RM195,375.25 from seven landowners sometime early last year,” he added.
“The new site has been handed over to the Education Ministry through the state Education Department.
“Officers from both the Education Ministry and the state Education Department have also visited the school as well as the new site. The project was planned for implementation under the 11th Malaysia Plan and was supposed to take off this year,” he added.
However, he hoped that urgent attention be given the school and that it could be implemented as soon as possible.
