KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, presented a RM10,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to the SK Satria Jaya Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) on Tuesday.
The funds will be channelled towards the purchase of 200 durable plastic chairs and several water coolers, aimed at improving student comfort and access to clean drinking water during school hours.
The handover ceremony held at the school saw Yap presenting a cheque to PTA Chairman, Alex Pega.
The initiative addresses long-standing concerns about dilapidated and uncomfortable classroom furniture, as well as the need for hydration facilities.
“This grant is not just about chairs and water coolers – it is about investing in our children’s learning environment, their health and their future.
“We must ensure that our schools are equipped to help students thrive academically and physically,” said Yap.
He added that the provision of such essential facilities will significantly improve student focus and the overall classroom experience.
“Their comfort and safety must always come first,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration between elected representatives and the local school community.
“Working closely with the schools and their PTA allows us to identify needs on the ground and act quickly.
This is what meaningful partnerships look like,” he said.
Recently, Yap allocated RM100,000 to upgrade halls in other local schools.
“Education is the foundation of community growth, and together, we will build a brighter and more promising future for Kota Sentosa,” he said.
