SELANGAU: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Labang here is among the first schools to benefit from the first phase of the state government’s school upgrading project, which is part of Sarawak’s RM1 billion commitment to enhance educational facilities in rural areas.
Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the state government has identified all dilapidated schools in Sarawak for phased upgrades under the programme.
“This is a testament to the efforts and determination of the Sarawak government in ensuring that our children in rural areas have access to safer and more comfortable learning environments,” he said.
He said this during the Aidilfitri Ramah Tamah event and the official launching of the first phase of the Sarawak School Upgrading Programme at SK Labang and the Labang Village Hall yesterday (Apr 13).
Rundi asserted that SK Labang now enjoys a newly constructed building and upgraded hostel facilities, creating a more conducive learning environment.
“I hope this improved setting will inspire our teachers to nurture outstanding students, especially from Labang village, as they are the leaders of tomorrow,” he added.
Additionally, he announced contributions of RM20,000 to the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of SK Labang, RM30,000 to the Labang Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), and RM20,000 to the Women’s Bureau of JKKK Labang to support various community development initiatives in the village.
