SK Abang Ali comes out best contingent

SIBU: SK Abang Ali emerged overall champion in the procession held in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday celebration at the Sibu Town Square here on Friday night. SK Abang Ali won the contingent with the most participants but second place for banner and procession in Category A, which is for institutes, skill centres and schools.

The winner for the banner and procession competition for Cateogry A was SK Sentosa while Immigration Sibu won the Category B for uniformed bodies, JAIS Sibu (Category C – government agencies and statutory bodies), Darul Amilin Mosque (Category D – mosque and surau), Kumpulan Urusetia Saudara Kita (Category E – associations and organizations) and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (Category F – private companies and financial institutions).

The winner for the contingent with the most participants for category B was Ninth Infantry Brigade, Sibu Municipal Council for category C, Surau Darul Ma’wa for category D, Perkim Sibu branch for category E and Sanyan Group for category F.

Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee handed over the prizes to the winners. Earlier, Dr Annuar accompanied by Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee and Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce led the procession that began at the An Nur Mosque.

A total of 58 contingents involving some 4,000 people took part in the 2.1km procession, passing through main streets and ended at the Town Square.
