KUCHING: Federation of Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian wishes to clarify that SJK Chung Hua Bako has already had its relocation approved.
Its president Jonathan Chai said based on records with the education department, the relocation of SJK Chung Hua Bako was officially granted on April 13 2018.
“Relocation of the school had been approved, but now we are still awaiting approval on the building plan for the construction of the school to begin,” he said at a recent press conference at the board’s office at Jalan Chan Chin Ann here.
He explained that when it comes to land matters it is under the Sarawak government, while relocation approval is under the federal government.
Meanwhile, he said the federation also had a dialogue with Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching, who was on a working visit to SK Sebandi Matang in Asajaya last Thursday.
“She had come all the way from Kuala Lumpur to help us resolve the obstacle faced by the relocation of SJK Chung Hua Bako and SJK (C) Kai Nang Sibu to Samarahan Division.
“Despite dispute, misunderstanding and query about the approval of the two schools…as advised by Teo, we look forward to solving whatever problems rather than indulge in the bitter past,” he pointed out.
He said the construction cost of the RM6 million SJK Chung Hua Bako had been settled, and the board had also applied to the federal ministry through Teo hoping the ministry would allocate some money to purchase materials such as tables and chairs, and to finance setting up of a computer and science lab as well as a library.
Looking at the growing population in the Samarahan area which, as of 2016 was 160,000 (people) from 47,000 households, Chai said the two schools are badly needed.
“SJK Chung Hua Bako will be relocated to Taman Berlian, and SJK (C) Kai Nang will be relocated to City Garden in Samarahan,” he said.
